This is the intersection of two rivers in Switzerland. On the left, the Rhone streams from Lake Leman, leaving all of the silt resting there at the bottom. The Arve River is on the right, which flows from the Alps which are only 100km  upstream. Apparently, there is a wall underwater which hasn’t yet completely eroded. Also, because the Arve is much colder than the Rhone, the warm, silty water will sink because it is denser and heavier (Multiple Sources). View high resolution
